So this year's Chinese New Year was mostly spent in Malaysia (my parents were born in Malaysia, which explains why my grandparents live there), plus some visitings in SG, family gatherings, visiting with Fatty and also a CNY dinner with my dearest OUAM girls!
CHINESENEWYEAR EVE.
Woke up at 5am to set off for Pontian in an attempt not to be caught in the crazy jam, luckily our efforts paid off. Started off with my favourite roti prata for breakfast, no pratas in Singapore can ever beat these. Not to mention these are dirt-cheap too, unlike those expensive $1.60 Jalan Kayu pratas which ain't even yummy at all.
Reunion lunch at Daddy's side, steamboat!
A bowl of boring looking malaysia chendol which tastes like heaven.
The first yu sheng we lou-ed this chinesenewyear!
Reunion dinner at Mummy's side! And this was only the cousins table, there's two huge tables filled with all these glorious food, it was really a feast fit for the king.
The kiddos lining up to receive angbaos from Grandma!
Birthday celebrations for the January babies,
And then it was time for firecrackers and non-stop gambling! Check out the huge box of fireworks, firecrackers and sparkles my uncle bought, cost him RM500 in total!
CHINESENEWYEAR 初一.
Was up bright and early even though the previous night was spent gambling with the cousins till 3plus, got dressed (simple maroon flare dress this year, which turned out red in most of the photos, grr) and off we went for visiting! There wasn't much visiting to do in Malaysia since all the relatives will gather at our grandparents' houses and most of the us live in Singapore so we never really had the tradition of visiting during CNY.
Pretty mummy wrapping angbaos!
With the paternal side cousins!
Back to the maternal side for more gambling and feasting.
Crazy amount of people squashed in the living room,
Cousin drove some of us out for another round of roadside chendol!
Reached home and tadah, uncle was in the midst of setting up a home photo-studio for some family portraits! These are all the un-edited versions, taken with my laopok DSLR and iPhone.
The night was then spent releasing 孔明灯, ultra fun! Except that I thought 孔明灯 are supposed to be white in color?
Supper with the cousins before heading back to our hotels.
初二.
Got home, didn't even have time to rest and we were out for another round of visiting, this time with the paternal side relatives in SG.
Another family gathering at Aunt's!
Traditional self-make popiah for dinner,
Super cute dragon yu-sheng aunt made!
Crab feast with the OUAM girls, it's kind of saddening that the group is becoming smaller and smaller, from Kenny & the 7 of us to the usual 4. But i'm still super thankful for these 3 precious girls hehe.
Had ice-cream for desserts at Salted Caramel. Heard alot of raves about this place but the ice-cream is totally mehhhhh, can't be compared to other ice-cream parlours like Daily Scoop, Island Cremery, Haato etc.
Alright, time to get back to my books before hitting the gym with my new running shoes! Been gaining too much weight from all that feasting, my face's becoming rounder and rounder, tsk.
Waw. great day with a great family and food :)
